Valley Academy
The Valley Academy is a Smaller Learning Community within Valley High School designed to meet the needs of academically high achieving students. Valley Academy students are expected to take responsibility for their educational success by:
- Maintaining a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must enroll in one Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) course each semester
- Maintaining good attendance each year
- Participating in at least one sport or extr-curricular activity year round
- Completing 10 hours of community service each semester
In return, Academy students have the opportunity to participate in many programs designed to foster success, such as tutoring, test preparation classes, and college searches.
Students applying to the Valley Academy and living outside the Valley attendance area must apply for and receive a transfer through APS City Center. Valley Academy students are given "first priority" for academic events on Valley's campus. Some examples are:
- Placement in Honors/AP courses
- First to sign-up for academic tests (ACT, SAT, PSAT)
- Tutoring by UNM students
- Job Shadowing/Mentorship
The requirements for acceptance are:
- Completed application
- One teacher recommendation (Math, Science, Social Studies, or English teacher)
- Mid-School transcript (3.0 or higher GPA)
