Upward Bound - LNESC
About LNESC
LULAC National Educational Service Centers, Inc. (LNESC) is a national non-profit organization established in 1973 for the purpose of implementing education and leadership programs that narrow the opportunity gap for America’s disadvantaged youth.
Mission
Upward Bound (UB) provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. Upward Bound serves: high school students from low-income families; and high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants’ complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.
Academic Year Curriculum, Services, and Activities
Academic year services and activities focus on providing weekly tutorial services, and Saturday Academy workshops. During the academic year, UB staff provides additional support to participants taking AP courses to keep students motivated. The goal is to challenge students without overwhelming them.
